KEA Carnival and Sangeetha Sandhya

Keralite Engineers Association (KEA) celebrated their 10th anniversary with a Mega Carnival and Sangeetha Sandhya on 19th December 2007 at the Al-Andalus School, Rumaithiya. The event was sponsored by Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al-Kharafi & Sons and co-sponsored by ACME, Gulf Bank and Payal Jewellers. The highlights of the celebrations were fun games and competitions at Carnival and the melodious musical evening. The event was organized for the KEF fraternity and their friends as a complete family entertainer. The musical evening, Sangeetha Sandhya, was rendered by a team of well known artists from India, led by popular musical composer and playback singer, M. Jayachandran. The members of the musical team were Stephen Devassy, Gayathri Asokan, Chitra Iyer, Afzal, Sudeep Kumar and Arun Raj. The Sangeetha Sandhya was started with welcome address by KEA President, Kurian Verghese, which was followed by lighting the lamp by the President, Vice President Finney George and past Presidents of KEA Abraham Thomas Pozhuvelil and A.J. James along with guest of honour K. O. Philippose, representing the platinum sponsor M/s Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al-Kharafi and Sons. After lighting the lamp, the President released the souvenir, published to commemorate the occasion, to Philippose. The professionally compeered musical program was started in style with a popular number “Pachappanam thathe” sung by Jayachandran in two different tunes. The program continued with a good mix of melody and dance numbers. “Gangey…” (Sudeep), “Mithuvaa” (Afzal), “Kusumavadana” (Chitra Iyer and Arun Raj), Kallayi kadavathe (Jayachandran), “Akale…” (Jayachandran, Arun Raj), Chanchaadi Aadi” (Gayathri), “Kadukittu varuthoru” (Afzal, Sudeep, Arun Raj), “Konjikarayalle” (Jayachandran and Gayathri) etc were some of the songs that made the audience nostalgic. Stephen Devassy’s mesmerizing performance on the keyboard made the audience spellbound. The Sangeetha Sandhya, which lasted for over three hours, was concluded with a Medley sung by all the singers. To cherish the occasion, artists were honored with mementoes. KEA Arts Secretary Paul T. Kurian delivered the Vote of Thanks, in which he thanked all the sponsors, advertisers, organizing committee conveners, members and volunteers for making the event a memorable one in the history of KEA. A large number of alumni members and guests gathered to participate in the various fun games and be part of the happenings of the Mega Carnival from 3 PM created a festive mood at the venue. The carnival venue was decorated with models of Kaalavandi, Pettikkada and Chayakkada to reflect traditional Kerala village atmosphere, which was to many children a new experience. Dance and art forms of Kerala like Pulikkali, Kaduvakkali, Chendamelam etc added color to the carnival. The carnival wouldn’t have been complete without the traditional Kerala food. This was also taken care of by Thattukada, which served mouth watering delicacies. The Carnival and Sangeetha Sandhya provided a wholesome entertainment for members and their families.
