When the alumni associations of six engineering colleges of Kerala, active in Kuwait, decided to come together under one fold called Kuwait Engineers Forum (KEF), there were large number of Malayalee Engineers from various colleges outside Kerala who did not fit into any of the existing alumni in Kuwait. It was also not practical to have an alumni for each and every college outside Kerala. This created the impetus for Engineers from colleges outside Kerala to form their own association. Thus Keralite Engineers Association (KEA) was formed in the year 1997 with 132 Engineers from 55 colleges spread over 25 Universities.

The first General body of the Association was held on 13th june 1997 at the residence of Mr.C.T.Thomas in Salmiya. The General Body decided on the name "Keralite Engineers Association" and the first executive committee was elected with Mr.Abraham Thomas Puzhuvelil as President.

The strength of the Association has steadily grown over the period of 10 years. The number of colleges under the association has also correspondingly increased over 125. The growth is not merely in numbers, but also in the involvement and commitment of the members to carry forward the spirit. This has been mainly due to the selfless hard work put in by the Executive Committee under the able leadership of all the Presidents.
